Preparing for the Colloquium-Options

Beginning in Summer 2024, in consultation with your adviser, you have three options to prepare for the Colloquium. Please be aware that the Colloquium itself remains as a degree requirement, and you must complete 128 units to graduate. Please indicate your choice by selecting one of the options below. Students with questions about these options should speak with their class adviser.

Options
I will prepare for the Colloquium using only the three to four meetings I typically have with my adviser each semester.
I will seek to enroll in the two-credit “Writing the Rationale and Preparing for the Colloquium” course, which meets once weekly every Fall semester. (This class offers students both general advice and specific feedback by course instructors on the Rationale and List of Works drafts, as well as opportunities to workshop your ideas and materials with peers, and to participate in mock colloquia. This option is best suited for students who wish to prepare in the company of other students and faculty, while still meeting with their advisers three or four times per semester as they would normally.)
I will seek to enroll in a two-credit Independent Study-Colloquium Preparation with my faculty adviser. (Students selecting this option must adhere to the Independent Study guidelines as described in the Gallatin catalog. Two-credit independent studies require at least four meetings between you and your adviser—meetings that are separate from the standard three or four advising meetings. This option is best suited for students who need extra mentorship as they prepare for and complete their Rationales and Lists of Works.)
