Each fall, Gallatin selects sophomores and juniors to nominate for NYU's University Leadership Honors Course. If you would like to be considered for one of Gallatin's four spots, we ask that you submit an application by Tuesday, October 12. Read on to find out what the ULHC is and how you can apply.
What is the University Leadership Honors Course? The ULHC is a 2-credit academic course that is focused on high-achieving sophomores and juniors throughout the University. This course helps students prepare for prestigious national and international post-graduate fellowships, scholarships, and leadership programs. Examples include the Rhodes, Marshall, Truman, Watson, Gates, Goldwater, Fulbright, Javits, Cooke, and the NSF Fellowships and Scholarships. Students will also become part of a network of leadership-oriented students throughout the University.
Criteria for Selection:
- In the top 5% of the school academically (at least a 3.8 GPA)
- Exceptional character and integrity
- Leadership ability or demonstrated leadership potential
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Enthusiasm or an ability to benefit from and contribute to the course
- Distinction by virtue of their creativity, talent, extraordinary achievement, or record of public
or community service - Studying in New York for Spring 2022
Why apply? Students who participate in ULHC will be exposed to readings, discussions, interactive sessions, self-assessment tools, and also take part in specially arranged meetings with top-level leaders and academics who will share their insights on the nature and skills of effective leadership, professional growth, communication, and self-awareness.
Where and when does the course meet?
Students will meet on Wednesday mornings from 9:30am – 12 pm, on campus or at sites throughout the region where they will interact with and learn from leaders across a wide band of disciplines and fields. Some leaders may be available to meet with the class outside of the regular class schedule. Note that students studying away in Spring 2022 are not eligible.
What happens if my application is nominated? Nominations will be reviewed and the most promising candidates will be chosen as Finalists. Finalists will receive an invitation on Monday, November 1 to attend mandatory interviews. The interviews will be conducted during the week of November 8. Decisions will be announced on or before November 16.
