NYU Gallatin invites applications for the Gallatin HIVE (Home for Interdisciplinary Ventures & Experimentation). The Gallatin HIVE advances Gallatin’s long tradition as a hub of interdisciplinary research, teaching, and creativity. The HIVE supports teams of faculty, broader NYU, and external organizations by creating a creative, collaborative, and interdisciplinary space for the investigation of pressing contemporary issues.
Faculty are invited to submit proposals for multi-year projects to begin in AY 2025-26. Project funding is for two years, with the prospect of renewal for a third year. Faculty are encouraged to seek additional funding to expand and extend projects beyond three years, when appropriate.
HIVE projects can be funded at up to $20,000/year for the first two years, renewable for a third year at $10,000. Funds can be used, for example, for project assistant stipends, working group meetings, public events, travel, and project supplies/materials. International collaborations are encouraged.
While all project models will receive equal consideration, faculty may wish to consider a structure in which year one is focused on project development, including the creation of a working group, outreach to external partners, and workshops; year two is devoted to regular meetings of the working group for project development; and year three to dissemination of the work through publication, public events, and other project outcomes.
Eligibility Criteria
All full-time Gallatin faculty are eligible to apply to the Gallatin HIVE. Project teams should include at least three faculty members, and include at least one full-time faculty member from a school or department at NYU other than Gallatin. Teams may also include external organizations.
It is expected that project (co-)directors will participate in the future selection of new HIVE working groups. Grant awardees will also be asked to submit a short report on their activities.
