What is CALI?
The College Access Leadership Institute (CALI) is a summer program designed to help rising high school seniors navigate the college admissions process. Led by NYU Admissions counselors and Gallatin undergraduate mentors, CALI is a series of intensive workshops and seminars that prepare students to apply for and succeed at college. CALI is designed to improve access to higher education for students in the New York City area whose socioeconomic class and/or first-generation statuses are underrepresented in higher education.
The program helps prep high school students in the following areas:
- Finding College Fit
- Acing the College Essay
- Financial Education and Navigating Financial Aid
As a CALI Gallatin Mentor, you will
- Provide guidance and support to a cohort of 12th graders, sharing personal experiences and insights about the college application process and college life.
- Facilitate pre-program communication with assigned students, ensuring they have all necessary information and feel welcomed.
- Assist with program logistics, ensuring students are familiar with campus facilities, and accompanying them to various activities/programming.
- Work closely with Admissions Counselors and program staff to ensure an enriching experience for NYU CALI participants.
- Participate in training sessions to equip yourself with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively fulfill your role.
Job Requirements
Gallatin CALI mentors will need to be in New York City and available to work from Sunday, July 14-Friday July 19, with 1-2 additional half days for training (dates in mid-June, TBD, with remote attendance possible). Mentors will be trained on everything they need to know, including protection of minors, emergency protocols, and facilitating sessions as CALI mentors.
Students should expect to work 6-8 hours per day.
Eligibility
This position is only open to Gallatin undergraduates. Preference will be given to those who have served successfully as Gallatin Orientation Leaders, Gallatin or NYU Admissions Ambassadors, Gallatin AAP mentors, and/or NYU Resident Assistants.
Compensation
$18/hour
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Law, the hourly base salary range for student employment positions is $16-$18 per hour for undergraduate students.
Interested students should submit this form. Qualified candidates will be invited to interview in mid-late March. Offers will be made by April 1 and must be accepted by April 15.
