Global Experiential Learning (EXL) Scholars is a selective yearlong sophomore program that provides an exciting opportunity to integrate economics, business, and finance into your Gallatin concentration through experiential, interdisciplinary, and creative learning that takes place both inside and outside the classroom, culminating in a Spring Break 2027 trip to Frankfurt, Germany - a major hub for finance and innovation.
Fall 2026: Students will enroll in a zero-credit seminar in fall and spring. Global EXL Scholars (studying in NYC) will meet once a month in fall. They will engage with prominent NYU Gallatin alumni, faculty, and industry leaders, take part in conversations on monetary policy, financial innovation, entrepreneurship, and global economic challenges, and engage in business/industry visits.
Students studying away may still apply. In lieu of the fall seminar, they will be required to complete an EXL course at their global study-away site.
Spring 2027: Scholars will participate in two seminar sessions and one pre-departure orientation before traveling to Frankfurt for an immersive field experience focused on European markets, finance, and monetary policy. The trip will include visits to the European Central Bank, Deutsche Bundesbank, major universities, fintech hubs, and global businesses. After the trip scholars will meet twice and collaborate in small teams on a white paper about the future of European monetary policy and innovation.
Internship Requirement: All scholars enroll in at least a one credit internship during the fall 2026 or Spring 2027 semester. While placement is not guaranteed, students in this program will receive individualized support for their internship search through Gallatin’s Office of Experiential Learning. Students who have already secured an upcoming internship are also encouraged to apply.
