Students in Gallatin courses (including independent studies, tutorials, private lessons or internships) are expected to complete the required work by the deadline set by the instructor. If, for good reason (illness, family emergency, etc.), a student cannot finish the required work for a Gallatin course by the instructor’s deadline, the student may request a grade of Incomplete.
Instructions for completing this form:
- Review the Gallatin Policy on Incomplete Grades
- Speak with the course instructor before the last day of classes and prior to completing this form. The grade of Incomplete is not automatically granted, and if the written request is not made, the instructor will submit a final grade based on work completed to that point.
- You and the instructor should discuss what work you need to complete and the deadline for submitting that work.
- If the request is approved, you must complete and submit the required work by the deadline specified by your instructor. To avoid overloading work in the next semester Gallatin strongly encourages students to complete the work for incompletes by these deadlines:
- Incompletes earned in Fall semester: Due end of first week of Spring semester
- Incompletes earned in J-term: Due Monday after Spring Break
- Incompletes earned in Spring semester: Due end of first week of Fall semester
- Incompletes earned in Summer term: Due end of first week of Fall semester
You must remember to hand in the work; the instructor is not obliged to send reminders. If you do not submit the required work, the grade will lapse to an F automatically at the end of the following term (i.e. in the spring term for a fall/January term course or in the fall term for a spring/summer course).
