Domestic External Study Application, Undergraduate

This application is to request permission to take a course or courses at another college or university in the United States.  Before completing this application, students should have read all of the guidelines and limitations on the Domestic External Study webpage.

Students seeking approval to study outside of the United States with another college or university must complete the International External Study Application.

Application Deadlines

Students who apply after these dates may experience a delay in obtaining a decision.

  • Fall: April 1
  • Spring: November 1
  • Summer: March 1

 

For NYU to award transfer credit, you must request that the college/university you attend send an official transcript directly to us at the following address:

Submit a 250-500-word statement explaining how the external course(s) and/or program relates to your concentration and enhances your education. IMPORTANT: If your external study credits will cause you to exceed the transfer credit limit (64 credits), your statement should address this, and you must file a separate petition through Gallatin (contact Gallatin Office of Academic Advising for details). Undergraduates: if you intend to pursue external study during your final 32 credits, when you are required to be in residence at NYU, your statement should address why you are petitioning to be waived from this requirement.
