Thanks to the gift of several donors, Gallatin is able to offer a teaching reduction for faculty active in research. The Gallatin Faculty Research Fellowship is a two-year fellowship, in which recipients are typically granted a course reduction for one semester in each of the two years. Please note Clinical Assistant Professors may request a course reduction of 2 courses in one semester.
Eligibility
Eligibility for the Gallatin Faculty Research Fellowship is limited to Gallatin’s full-time faculty. The following ranks are eligible to apply for a research fellowship:
- Professors and Associate Professors (tenured)
- Clinical Professors and Clinical Associate Professors
- Clinical Assistant Professors who have completed a successful third year renewal
Criteria
Preference will be given to faculty:
- who are in the midst of, or coming to the end of a research or artistic project, and for whom the reduced teaching load can make a significant difference in the possibility of completing a project
- who have not just completed a sabbatical or a funded fellowship leave
- who are not eligible for a sabbatical or leave during or immediately after the two-year fellowship
Application
Applications should consist of:
- A cover page indicating your name, the date of the last formal leave that you held, the title of your project and a 4-6 sentence abstract or summary of the project.
- A 1-2 page summary of the project including a timetable and a description of where you are in your research and why this would be a useful moment for a teaching reduction.
- Your updated CV
Applicants will consult with the Associate Dean for Faculty and the Curriculum Chair about the feasibility of their requests for course releases in specific semesters.
Deadline
Please submit applications by November 2nd.
